To collaborate means to bring something together, and in this article’s case kids came together in a fake online school newspaper for a pretend Hogwarts because they read the Harry Potter series. The fake newspaper is a wonderful way for young, creative writers to use their imagination, and J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series helped stimulate the kids’ imaginations as they wrote about being related to the characters or short stories involving the magical creatures of the wizard world. Fans of Harry Potter, books and movies alike, tend to stick together, discuss their favorite scenes and characters, and talk about what they wish would have happened or believe did happen that was not mentioned in the book or movie. The kids’ part in the “Hogwarts” school newspaper seemed to be a great way to help them become interested in writing.
The role that collaboration plays in everyday writing is that multiple pieces of everyday writing, such as short stories, come together and can form one larger story. It is better to collaborate than to work alone because there are more ideas that can be brought into one thing. The more people brainstorming, and the more people with broad imaginations, the better something like Harry Potter can become, especially with fan fiction pieces. Fan fiction helps creative stories like Harry’s become even more interesting, and when several people collaborate their stories to extend on one that was already made, it gives those people the chance to share their creativity and spark interest in other people’s desire to write.
