Week 6
Place and scene have a lot to do with everyday writing. Jennifer H. Edbauer talked about how people were offended by the "ZEPPELIN ROCKS!!!" because it was out of place and during a very difficult time for this country. I agree that placement and timing of everyday writing is important because, just like in the example give, people can get offend easily. If someone wrote a bible verse on the floor in front of a jewish synagog (I'm not saying this is okay or has happened or whatever) that would be offensive to the members of the synagog. But if a bible verse was written in front of of a christian church it would be appreciated. Placement is important, and when people were grieving after 9/11 humor in a place of sadness was disgusting to most. Thats why the wall where "ZEPPELIN ROCKS!!!" had been written was torn down early. Graffiti is everyday writing because it is not professionally written in a scholarly way. Graffiti is creative and expresses the creators emotions and beliefs.

ReplyDeletePlace and scene play an important role even in everyday writing. Because even if someone is doing every day writing their writing need to target a specific audience. In other for that to be done the writer need to find the right place and movement. For instance in Edbauer Meta Physical Gaffiti everyone was angry with the ZEPPLIN ROCKS script in the wall because that wasn’t the right place or movement for that comment to be made. Even if the person was trying to be funny it did not seem funny to the audience, because they were in a time of sadness. We see the comment caused the wall to be taken done earlier than planned. Thus I agree with Emily’s response seem like we had the same thoughts about the reading.
