I never really saw the importance in the place and scene of everyday writing until now, but I realize now that they actually play a huge role in the meaning. Where and how something is written has such a great meaning, especially to the writer. When you write someone a birthday card, you don’t just grab a piece of lined paper and simply write “happy birthday” on it. Birthday cards are usually made with blank or colored/decorated printer paper and have a long heartfelt note written on the inside. The place and scene of the writing show the hard work devoted into making it, giving it a much greater meaning than just sloppy work. Place is also important when dealing with graffiti, as talked about in the article. Graffiti is written in certain places in the public in order to catch the public’s eye. They are meant to be seen in order to express opinions and alter others. The scene of the writing matters because writing it in certain places means it’ll be seen by more of the public eye. Graffiti is definitely considered a form of everyday writing even though most people only see it as art. Although it is in paint, graffiti is still something written and has a message that came from someone else’s thoughts. Place and scene plays a very important role in the circulation of ideas. This decides the audience that will see these messages and the way they’ll be communicated.
