place/scene play in the circulation of ideas?
Place and scene make everyday writing what it is. If you are to write something in a magazine it would not be an everyday writing but if you were to write it on a Facebook post or tweet it that would be an everyday writing. The place also deals with the physical place the writing is done; if you write a note on a wall somewhere it is going to have a different meaning than if you write a personal letter to someone and mail it to them. The reading mentioned how a tag saying ZEPPELIN ROCKS!!! was placed over a wall that was meant for lamenting over the tragedy of 9/11. The placement of this writing was inappropriate as well as the scene around the writing. This tag would have been acceptable on a wall somewhere else or even the same wall a few months later but since there was a tragedy and a purpose to what was covered by the tag there was a negative and aggressive resistance to the writing. The scene around writing also affects the meaning of the writing. I you just broke up with someone you would not write him or her a letter telling as if you were still with him or her. Similarly you would not send someone who is sick a happy birthday card, you would send him or her a get well soon card; unless you are trying to use the humor from the card to cheer him or her up. The scene around the writing changes the effectiveness of the writing.
